Nokia 5800 Express Music
Recently I've changed my old mobile SE K800 to Nokia 5800. Thanks Dewi for the screen protector ! :)

I was actually waiting for the Nokia E71. Didn't even know this phone was out until I found out on the website. Changed my mind on the spot and sign up the phone the next day. Haven't regretted after using for a few weeks, and more importantly, the phone hasn't crashed at all (unbelievable for a modern Nokia phone)!

This is my first touch screen mobile, getting more used to it as the phone has only 3 main buttons. Below are some of my thoughts:

Pros
  • Nokia Comes With Music - What really impressed me wasn't actually the phone itself, but rather the "Nokia Comes With Music" - unlimited music downloads for 1 year. Yeah I know the DRM thing is stupid but unlimited downloads ? I can live with that.
note: there are some websites that claim it's not "unlimited", only 120 songs per year. But looking at my Nokia Music, I've already downloaded 226 tracks...
  • Free 8GB memory card - Isn't this sweet? Would be even better if's internal though..
  • Touch screen sensitivity is ok
  • Message typing is quite good among the touch screen mobiles as you can choose several input choice from old school to qwerty style keyboard
  • Phone is lightweight - But beware, it's a little flimsy, one drop... R.I.P.
  • Standard data connectivity - WLAN/Bluetooth/USB etc
  • Internet browsing is quite good (but not the browser)

Cons
  • Most of the times, you'll need to nagivate through a lot of screens to achieve one thing. I'm not a fan of Nokia navigation interface and this haven't changed for yaers.
  • The casing provided is really hard to use
  • This phone is supposed to be a portable entertainment device, but the side volume adjust button is not usable when the phone is being locked. You'll need to unlock the phone to adjust the volume.
  • Blinking/phantom windows appearing and disappearing between applications.
  • File manager - how could you call it a "manager" if it doesn't even support one of the most needed multiple item selection function ? ie, if you need to move 10 files from one folder to another, good luck on that because you'll need to move one by one, for 10 times.
  • No one-button-access to display current running applications.
  • Making a call and contact browsing is really not user-friendly.
  • The call button (green) displays outgoing/incoming/missed calls separately, would be nice to have another section that combines all 3 categories. It's handy when you want to make a call quick without too much finger-touching.
  • Gallery/Media browsing - really really crappy and wouldn't want to comment more.
  • Music player - If you un-plug the earphone while playing a song, it automatically continue to play out on speakers.
  • Camera - Don't expect too much, don't even expect it to be average. My SE K800 camera phone is almost 3 years old now, but the camera quality is far more superior than this Nokia 5800.
  • The headset - The cable is a bit too long ? That could get a person hang dead if it's not used properly...

iPhone Killer? maybe not...
Overall, the phone is quite good (along with the bundles). Forget about this if you're looking for a average camera phone.

The Nokia 5800 has other name - the "iPhone Killer" but I guess iPhone still stands out easily. However, given this is just the first generation of touch screen phones from Nokia, the potential to be able to compete more with iPhone in future is undeniable.
