Happy Birthday to myself !

This year is something special, aunty made a lot of dumplings yesterday. They called it 催生饺子. According to tradition, you must only eat them a day before your birthday, NOT on the birthday. First time I know about this =) .. those 天津 style dumplings are really delicious ^^

As usuall, I'm greedy and I wished for 3 wishes... Birthday boy is always larger than life... forgive me... hehe :p

I usually don't write personal or work related things in this blog... but... I'll blog this here as a reminder. I hope I'll remember this day and learn this as a lesson.

Things keep borthering me yesterday and I have a feeling something bad will happen. Shitty things happened while I'm in work. Now, as an employee, instead of losing confidence in my company, I lost my trust to it too.

Just realize Telstra Bigpond has a new move after watching the premiere showing of "Tripping Over" on Channel 10 just now. It seems that Bigpond is offering movie/drama download via BigPond Movies. Movies title are $5.95 each, and $2.95 for each episode in a drama.

Where the hell is all your DVD movies collections gone to ? It's not on the shelf... you borrowed to your best mate and he never returned it eh? nah... it's in my hard drive...

有一阵子没有更新我的blog了，好颓废啊……让我把我最近生活里所发生的事情概括一下吧：

不知道怎么搞的，最近我的手提电脑霉运连连，上个星期它被我连跟bed tray一脚从床上给踹了下去，差点落个魂飞魄散、万劫不复的下场……之后我的PCMCIA USB 2.0 CARD也坏了……靠！才用了两年就坏了！还以为Made in Taiwan的总比Made in China强些……郁闷~~ 这下可惨了，我的那些外接硬盘只能走USB 1.1，只能用乌龟的速度来听歌，其余活动如BT下载就免谈了。嗯……宝贝乖哦，要撑到明年 WinVista 出来之噢，那时我就可以买一台桌上型的电脑……然后……嗯……就上E-Bay给你找新主人吧

比较有趣的是我跟朋友、同事5人租了辆车直接开车下悉尼去看 Jolin蔡依林公主 的 《唯舞独尊》 演唱会! 没错！Jolin 在14号晚在悉尼的Entertainment Center开了场演唱会！开了近14个小时的路程，也见证了月亮和太阳交替，我可是第一次在澳洲看到这么多华人聚集在一块。当晚座位都坐满，虽然我觉得有几段Jolin跳的不是很好，不过看公主这么专心及卖力表演，我还是佩服她的。毕竟从头到尾，每一首歌都有跳舞表演，那可不是轻松的事啊！那天的嘉宾是言承旭，出来唱了两首歌就消失不见了，感觉有点莫名其妙的说…有点遗憾的就是公主那晚并没有唱 Love Love Love 这首歌，那是我们都想听的歌呀……

虽然，我们都不是Jolin的fans，不过估计跟我们这么疯狂(省钱)的开车下悉尼只为了看Jolin 也只有我们吧…第二天匆匆忙忙逛了China Town，买了想买的东西，就往回程赶…途中13个小时又见证了太阳和月亮的交替…呵呵

Virustotal is an online service for scanning virus/malicious/suspicious files using several antivirus engines. Oh ya, did I forget to mention it's free too ? I'm not sure if it can detect packers or not.

Another good free online file scanning service will be Online malware scan by Jordi Bosveld. Besides scanning, it supports simple packers detection. I used to use this but lately it seems the server load is always extremely busy, not sure if the server got bombard/flood or there are really so many people using it.

I suggest scanning both packed and unpacked suspicious file that you want to scan in order to get the best result.

I don't know why, it seems that the "Search King" Google and Microsoft doesn't like Opera. I can understand why Microsoft sort of hates Opera, and you can find alot of news and rumours on the dark side between Microsoft and Opera. However it seems that there is no negative news that shows Microsoft hates Firefox. For Google, I still remember GMail does not support Opera when it first open the service to public. Now the problem no longer exists. But then, Google Reader and Opera is not living in harmony. In Opera, the elements in Google Reader are cramped up together. Firefox is working fine on it. It seems like Google and Mozilla has some sort of alliance thing between them. Maybe open-source thing will always be the most attractive/peaceful ones among others eh ?

I'm a big fan of Opera for years, but I don't hate Firefox. I still use Firefox once in a while. However, it's just a pain in the ass (alright, maybe it's not that serious) to open Firefox specially for Google Reader, while using Opera to surf other websites. I use Google Reader almost everyday to read news/feeds. For Opera fans out there, here's a fix to make Opera to work perfectly with Google Reader :

1. Download Reader.js (contributed by unknown coder)
2. Visit Google Reader main page
3. Go to Tools menu, select Quick Preferences -> Edit site preferences -> Scripting. Under the Use Javascript file, point that to the newly downloaded Reader.js
4. Refresh the page and get ready to read thousands of feeds that you subscribed ;)

前几天在 Karen Q 的 blog 看了这部短片由吴宗宪及Sweety主持的 “宪在不准笑” 。 看着看着差些笑得从电脑椅给摔下来。。呵呵，实在是太好笑了。。搞得我都笑得快断气。。。

Alright, my webhosting company has moved my site to another new server. During the DNS propagation period, some people are visiting the latest content on new server and some are seeing the old content on old server, that causes some of the shout messages and also my weblog entries are messed up in new and old server. Luckily I still got the chance to do a database dump on the old server and merge with the dump on new server. The rest of the files (eg photos) can be uploaded again from local computer. So now everything is restored and should be appeared correctly in order.

ps: It would really freaks me out if I can't perform database dump on the old server because I don't have any recent backup... So regular backup of your database is really a good habit... (nah, I'm a lazy person.. who cares anyway about database backup eh ?)

Rawwwrrrrrrrr ~~~~~~~ !! This site is finally up and running again

beh tong nia... I can't believe my lame ISP really took 72hrs to update their cache for DNS records ! Last week, my webhosting company actually planned to do some RAM upgrades for the server. Then in the middle, I'm sort of confused, but I think they moved some of the accounts to another new server/datacenter in US. So new server means new IP address. That also means http://ahkuan.com is pointing to another new IP address. The changes is made effective pretty quick in the top registration database and the webhosting's DNS servers, however, the so called DNS propagation process is causing all the mess around.

Let's go in plain english... You see, every ISP cache the master DNS records and read them locally instead of looking them up on the Internet each time someone wants to view a website. Some ISP fetch a new copy once every 24 hrs. However, some ISP (like the one that I'm using) they fetch a new copy once every 72 hrs... or even longer ! So even though the domain name ahkuan.com is already mapped to a new IP address in the top level domain servers, but your ISP's DNS cache is still pointing to the old IP address ! So there will be chaos... some will be viewing the most updated content on the new server but some will still be visiting the old content on old server. Unless everybody is using pure IP address xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx instead of ahkuan.com, you'll probably have to wait up to 72hrs until your ISP refresh their DNS records cache.

It won't be surprised if you're still having problem to resolve to the correct address even after your ISP updated the cache. The problem might be your operating system is caching its own copy of DNS records. For windows user, go to command prompt, and type the following command:


This will flushes and resets the contents of the DNS client resolver cache. Try /displaydns to display the cache content.
